“Take pains. Be perfect” Season at The Pearl
The first show of the 2018-2019 season at the Pearl Theater in Pearland is underway. At a Take a Seat reception last night, 66 brand-new patron sponsored seats were revealed, including mine. Bravo!
The dreamlike set of A Midsummer Night’s Dream is a fitting tribute to Renee & Peter van Nifterik who reached for their dreams and opened The Pearl Theater in 2011. The theater-loving duo and company, aka The Pearland Theatre Guild, performed at small venues around the area for several years, within its new home theater magic happened.
Since 2011, The Pearl has staged 50 plays for adults and children. The current season offerings include: A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Silent Sky, Kid Frankenstein, The Velveteen Rabbit, Blues from an Alabama Sky, Doublewide Texas, 5 More Minutes/A Sleeping Beauty Story, and The Wiz. After recently completing under graduate studies at Central Washington University, Renee has taken on her position as Artistic Director full time. Peter, a man of all seasons, trades and talents, is on mark whenever and where ever needed. The old guard, a very long and loyal list, is teaching new hands theater crafts…the place hums. I can’t imagine The Pearl without them.
